Jayke Hinkle, owner of Honda of Forrest City, recently donated two Fulmer DOT full-face helmets for use by EACC students and staff involved in the production and racing of electric cars. The cars are built at EACC as part of the Advanced Manufacturing program by students in the Design for Manufacturing classes.
“We really appreciate this donation,” said Jack DeLoach, faculty member in the Business/Technology department. “When we compete in these cars with other two-year colleges and schools in the state, they will really be beneficial. These cars can exceed 35 mph and are raced on an oval raceway in Little Rock. This will help ensure the safety of the drivers and enhance the student’s experience on the track.”
Each car has been constructed at EACC and is powered by four 12 volt lead acid batteries. “This 48 volt system car also competes in an endurance race to see how long the batteries will last,” said DeLoach. “It’s a great experience for the students and the staff to see the production of these cars from construction to the racing phase. Thanks to Honda of Forrest City, we’ll be racing in style.”
