Press Release
Microbiology will be offered for the first time as an online class at East Arkansas Community College in the Summer Terms 2010. The course will be a 10-week course in length with Michelle Baragona serving as the instructor.
Baragona is a long-time instructor in the community college system and has been teaching online courses for many years. She has also taught online classes in cell biology and zoology. The EACC microbiology course will be presented entirely online including the lecture and lab.
“Having this online science class at EACC will be our first venture at doing a lab class completely online,” said Dr. Don Lewis, EACC Math Science Department Chair. “In the near future, we hope to have both biology and physical science as online science courses as well as the required the lab online. Anatomy and physiology at EACC will soon be offered as a hybrid course with the lecture online and the lab being held on campus.”
“The Math/Science Department’s mission is to assist the students in various ways to help them reach their goals, said Lewis. “Many upper level math classes are already offered online and with the addition of the science courses it will make the department more accessible to more students.”
Early registration for the EACC Summer Terms begins on April 5, 2010. Online applications are available at www.eacc.edu
